Soulfire

2023, Year 2, Semester 2

In this game design project, we had 6 weeks to create a game that was multiplayer and used an external asset. In this case, in my group with Drew Davies, Jade Parkin, and Dylan Ye, we decided to have a local multiplayer split-screen game that was played with an Xbox controller as our external asset.

We had full creative freedom with the game theme, so we landed on the idea of making a Mario Party style game that had mini games where one player wins it all.

The theme of the game was about the ruler of Hell, Satina, who grew sick of ruling her kingdom alone. She chose 4 randomly selected contestants who would battle their way through Hell related mini games, and the one who won would stand by her side to rule over Hell with Satina. In a previous project, we all had to individually create 3D modelled characters which could be used in this assignment. This is where the characters for our game came from.

What was my role?

We first decided that we wanted to make a 2.5D game that included all of our 3D modelled characters. I took the role of creating Satina and a host character in 3D. I took a couple weeks to create these two characters before we decided as a group that we wanted to do a full 2D style game. We couldnt use my models,, but I did my best to put in all the effort I put into these models.

I coded one of the mini games, Demon Dash, that was like a 2D platform game. I was familiar with how to make a 2D platform game as we had done this as an assignment in the past. I coded using C# in Unity, where the game was designed also. I also took on the role of animating in 2D for the cutscenes that we had planned to have in the game. I have experience with 2D animating only through teaching myself using Procreate on the Ipad.

Below is the full play through of Syndicate:

I wanted to show the turntables for the two models I made because I did spend a bit of time on them but they are not finished, that is why the textures look wrong:
