2024, Year 3, Semester 1
At the beginning of this year we got the opportunity to partake in two game jams that were both two weeks long.
First Game Jam
The first game jam had the brief "Spreading", I joined a group with Drew davies, Jade Parkin, and Dylan Ye to create this project.
We decided for the theme of the game to be about a musician who spreads his happiness that he expresses through his music to sad civilians in his town. You must play your saxophone as the player and complete a small puzzle to finish the game and make everyone in the town happy.
What was my role?
This game jam happened to be happening when I was planning on making my capstone characters. To make sure I could practice creating characters in new art styles, i took on the role as the 2D artist. I drew in a style I have never tried before to work on my drawing skills and I chose to use a New Orleans jazz style for the art.
Here is the final game we created:
Second Game Jam
For this game jam, I stayed within the same group as the first one and the new theme was "UI and UX". This was perfect as we needed UI for our capstone game so we decided to make a main menu, a pause, and a settings screen.
What was my role?
I did the coding for the main start screen and also the Unitty design for it. I challenged myself to code without any help to test my coding skills to freshen up after not coding for a while and I could still remember exactly how to do it.
Here is the final playthough for this game jam:
